Our Purpose

Our story.

The founding members of Farm To Crag lived on the road, traveling to climb. They always wished there was a resource that could help them connect with the community and eat local, wherever they went. As they learned more about the climate benefits of regenerative organic agriculture, they wanted to share this knowledge with other climbers. This is where the idea of a map—and the broader vision for Farm To Crag—was born.

Our mission.

To transform our food system by connecting climbers to local sustainable food sources through tangible resources, community engagement, and education.

Our vision.

When climbers invest in local sustainable agriculture, we demonstrate our power to lead healthy lives, grow resilient communities, and reverse climate change.

What kind of food?

Good. Sustainable. Local.

We recognize that “Sustainable Food” can mean a lot of different things.

We highlight small, local farms, markets, and businesses who prioritize soil health. We believe organic practices are the highest standard, which are inclusive of regenerative organic practices, permaculture, biodynamic practices, and more.

Because.

It’s earth’s natural way. Regenerative organic agriculture describes ancestral farming and grazing practices that, among other benefits, reverse climate change by rebuilding soil organic matter and restoring degraded soil biodiversity—resulting in positive effects such as carbon drawdown, and improving the water cycle.

Not only does regenerative organic agriculture restore our soils and our environment, it also results in food that is richer in micronutrients and phytonutrients, more balanced in fatty-acid profiles, and is relatively free from toxins and chemicals that degrade human health.

And.

At Farm To Crag we believe any small farm that is committed to sustainable practices is worth supporting. Certifications are sometimes the easiest way to know if you are supporting healthy soil with your food choices, but we acknowledge there are so many ways beyond this to prioritize soil health.

Asking your farmers questions about what they do and why is the best way to understand the impact of your food choices and build mutual respect with the folks that know their land well enough to feed us and the planet.

Our commitment to

Diversty. Equity. Inclusion.

Achieving Farm To Crag’s ultimate vision requires disrupting the historic exclusion of, and barriers for, BIPOC communities to land ownership, food sovereignty, climbing and outdoor recreation.

Why.

We recognize that Indigenous peoples are the ancestors of regenerative agriculture. We welcome Indigenous communities as partners as we grow our reciprocity with the land, our food, and our planet and welcome all BIPOC communities to share the climbing rope, join the feast of nourishing local food on the table, and harness the fact that connections to the outdoors inspire action.

“Regenerative organic agriculture is a holistic land management practice that leverages the power of photosynthesis in plants to close the carbon cycle and build soil health, crop resilience and nutrient density.”

Let’s eat and climb for our future.
