Take Action

Get involved.

As an organization fueled by people—including an amazing network of volunteers—and a mission centered in all of us coming together, Farm To Crag relies on climbers and local communities to help spread the word about why they should care about and invest in local, sustainable agriculture.

We believe that as climbers, we have an important role to play in being advocates for all of the wild and beautiful places that allow us to feel the connection with the land that sustains us. With our unique voice, we can not only protect our public lands, but also our farmers who steward our nation’s resources and nourish our bodies.

Ask farmers questions.

Forming a relationship with the food you eat starts by asking the right questions. Here are some ideas of what to ask your local farmers to learn about your food:

  1. What are your pest management practices? This can begin a conversation about pesticides.

  2. Do you have ways that integrate your farm into the larger ecosystem? This could lead to a good conversation on different ways to do this (e.g., pollinator hedgerows or their commitment to keeping nitrogen out of the watershed).

  3. How do you prepare a new row for planting? This could lead to a discussion on till vs. no till practices.

  4. How many different varieties do you grow? Just a general good to know.

  5. What is your favorite part about farming? Great way to form a relationship with farmers and hear about how they show love to the food they grow.
